Seaford seniors shine as health and fitness leaders

When it comes to leading healthy and active lifestyles, Seaford High School seniors Charlie Herman and Amanda Williamson know what it takes. That’s why they were recently recognized with the 2023 Nassau Zone Outstanding Student Award.

The honor is presented to one male and one female student at every high school, and presented by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Students are nominated by their physical education teachers for best exemplifying the New York State learning standards for health and physical education.

“It feels good to be honored and to be seen for showing good character inside our physical education classes,” Amanda said, adding that she strives to use her knowledge and athletic skills to support her classmates.

Charlie said that he enjoys physical education classes and tries to make sure everyone is included and involved in the activities.

“This award shows leadership,” he said. “It feels good to have your teachers recognize who you are as a person.”

Amanda is a member of the varsity soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams, and Charlie is a varsity wrestler. Both students say that their physical education teachers and coaches serve as role models for them.
