Teaming up for a groovy gala

The Long Beach Historical Society is set to host a nostalgic blast from the past with its “Woodstock Revisited Gala” at Temple Emanu-El on Saturday, March 9.

The event is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and promises an evening of food, groovy music and more, all in support of preserving the rich history of Long Beach.

“There’s a lot of synergy between our two organizations,” Rabbi Jack Zanerhaft of Temple Emanu-El said. “We’ve hosted Historical Society events before, and there might be some members of the congregation who are involved at the Historical Society, maybe even on their board. So there’s a lot of cross-communication between the two entities. The Jewish people have always been honoring and acknowledging history and so the Historical Society honors our past and tries to keep those traditions and memories alive. And so, it’s a nice way for the temple to be involved in the community, and for two organizations to work together for common causes. "

As Zanerhaft emphasized, the partnership between Temple Emanu-El and the Long Beach Historical Society goes beyond simply providing space for events.

“We like to see ourselves as more than just a landlord hosting a venue,” Zanerhaft said. “We really are supportive of each other in many ways, and this is just one way of continuing the relationship.”

The Woodstock Revisited Gala offers attendees the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the 1969 Woodstock Festival, with encouragement to dress in period pieces and evoke the spirit of the event.

“The theme is Woodstock Revisited, so they’re having a band that will be covering songs from the Woodstock Festival era,” Zanerhaft said. “It’s very fun, festive, and all for a good cause.”

With a lineup of nostalgic tunes, a dinner and an atmosphere reminiscent of the 1960s, the gala aims to not only raise vital funds for the Long Beach Historical Society but also to celebrate the shared history and spirit of the community.

Tickets for the gala are available for purchase, with all proceeds going directly to the Long Beach Historical Society’s endeavors in archiving, education and community outreach.
