Wantagh Camera Club seeking new members

Posted

Are you interested in photography? Have you ever asked yourself, “How can I improve on my photographs?” Well the Wantagh Camera Club might be the answer. Founded in 1966 by a group of individuals interested in photography, the Camera Club still meets twice a month from September through June.

The club is still small, comprised of some 18 members and remains as intimate as ever. It’s a way of getting together, talking about photography, discussing the latest equipment and techniques along with helping each other in making that special photograph.

In addition to the two monthly meetings, field trips are planned with visits to local zoos, arboretums, sanctuaries and more. Out-of-town trips are also planned and sometimes become weekend events such as a drive up to Maine to photograph lighthouses.

The club meets at the Wantagh Public Library, 3285 Park Ave. in Wantagh, on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month, excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas, at 8 p.m. The first meeting of the month is set aside for club competition in which members’ photographs are then entered into the monthly Photographic Federation of Long Island competition. The other meeting usually features a lecture, a critique of each other’s photos or a guest speaker and is sometimes utilized for a workshop-type program.

Camera Club meetings conclude in June with a dinner and awards presentations for the season’s competitions and the final round of entries for the PFLI.

If you’re interested, please feel free to stop down to a meeting. Should you desire to join, dues are $50 per year which covers the purchases of plaques, guest speakers and more.
