Currently in its initial year of housing fifth-graders, the Davison Avenue Intermediate School held its first annual science fair in April. Organized by science and math teacher Christine Stanton, it was the first year that the science fair was open to fifth-grade students. Every student participated, either individually or in small groups, and presented their findings to the entire class. All projects were required to be hypothesis-driven and utilize the scientific method. Students were given approximately three months to complete their research.
“We had kids so excited that they were willing to sacrifice their recess in order to use the school’s new science lab,” Ms. Stanton said. “I was really impressed with the completed works – they did such an amazing job!”
Each project was judged by two teachers or administrators, and 24 out of 120 projects were classified as winners. Congratulations to the following individuals for their exemplary projects:
