“We need to fix the assessment system — I’m not talking about how we assess your individual houses, but we need to figure out a way so we don’t have to pay $60 to $1 million a year in refunds,” Weitzman responded. “I’m not talking about passing the refunds onto the school taxpayers as the administration wanted to do. I’m talking about going to Albany and getting some real reform legislation passed that everybody can live with so that assessments are fair and the taxpayers of Nassau County are not bearing the brunt of all of this.”
