Benefit Game set for July 28

Danny Green (San Antonio Spurs/Long Island native), Scott Machado (Iona, NBA Summer League, Houston Rockets), Justin Burrell (St. John’s/NBA Summer League, Golden State Warriors), Tyrone Nash (Notre Dame/Long Island native), and other elite basketball players from New York have agreed to star in the second Malone Mulhall Benefit Basketball Game to be held July 28 to honor the loss of three close friends, Michael Mulhall, Jamie Malone and Paige Malone. NBA Hall of Famer Chris Mullin will be celebrity coach of the teams.

On July 15, 2010, Paige, Jamie and Michael were on their way to work at Camp ANCHOR, a recreational summer camp for our mentally and physically handicapped population of all ages, when their daily commute turned into a fatal accident.

The Malone Mulhall Benefit Game has been established in an effort to do charitable work in memory of our friends, by providing an all-star basketball exhibition at Adelphi University on July 28 at 1 p.m. All proceeds will go to the Jamie and Paige Malone Foundation and the Michael Mulhall Memorial Scholarship.

Tickets to the game are $15 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.mmbenefitgame.com or at the Adelphi University gym the day of the game. All children are encouraged to participate in the autograph sessions with the players and coaches after the game.

The Camp ANCHOR (Answering the Needs of Citizens with Handicaps through Organized Recreation) community serves the Town of Hempstead, which covers 22 villages, and an estimated 800,000 people.

“It’s truly sad to see what happened to these kids while they were doing such great work for their community, but this event will honor their memory by helping others,” Green said. “This game consists of some of the best basketball players from the New York area, and it’ll be a great day of entertainment for all.”

“Michael, Paige and Jamie would be behind this event 110 percent,” said Mr. Mulhall. “They left us while in the service of others. That’s what they were about, so it is very fitting that their friends carry on with their work by organizing this kind of fundraiser. We are deeply moved that their friends are keeping their spirit of service alive.” Jim Malone, father of Jamie and Paige, and a basketball coach at Beach Channel High School is also fully behind this event.
