West Hempstead woman struck, killed crossing intersection

The intersection in West Hempstead where an elderly woman was struck and killed while crossing the road, according to Nassau County police.

The woman was identified by Nassau County police as 75-year-old Cathy Leary of West Hempstead.
An elderly female pedestrian was struck by an SUV while crossing an intersection in West Hempstead Tuesday, Oct. 24. Nassau County police said the woman died at the scene.
According to police, the accident happened at 6:47 a.m. when the woman was crossing Cornwell Avenue at the intersection of Wildwood Road. A 19-year-old man driving a 2019 Hyundai SUV struck the woman, police said. The teen remained at the scene.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
