Heroic brothers from West Hempstead receive award from State Sen. Todd Kaminsky

State Sen. Todd Kaminsky presented West Hempstead residents Yoni and Ariel Sacknovitz with the New York State Liberty Medal on March 15 for heroically reviving a man following a heart attack.

“They exemplify the epitome of citizenship and service, and their actions bring pride to our entire community,” Kaminsky said, in a news release.

While driving home on New Jersey Route 17 from a New York Jets game last October, Yoni and Ariel noticed a car had crashed into the median. The driver was unconscious, so the brothers broke a window and removed the injured motorist from the car. Then, they performed CPR and stayed with the driver until a paramedic unit arrived. The driver was transported to a local hospital and has since recovered.
