Drug deal gone bad
Nassau County police arrested a 17-year-old West Hempstead teen last week for dealing drugs to another teen and then slashing him with a knife.

According to detectives with the Third Squad, Matthew Sinatro, of Wilson Street, went to Marcellus Street and Jackson Avenue in Mineola on Oct. 4 around 12:30 a.m. to sell marijuana to a 17-year-old boy, who fled the scene without paying for the drugs. Sinatro pursued the teen, locating him at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Beebe Road, and then using a knife to cut the boy on his face, arms and torso.

The victim was removed to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Detectives located Sinatro at his house and recovered a black folding knife. They charged him with second-degree assault and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Oct. 4.

5th Precinct Crime Report

  • A home on Derrick Adkins Lane in Lakeview was burglarized between 8:50 a.m. at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 30.
  • Tires and rims were stolen from a car parked on Thrush Avenue in Lakeview sometime between 6:35 p.m. on Sept. 28 and 7:45 a.m. the next day. The unknown suspect wedges a red brick under the vehicle, causing it some damage.
  • A man’s bicycle was stolen around 12:20 p.m. from outside a 7-Eleven store on Hempstead Avenue in West Hempstead.
  • The passenger’s side window of a car was shattered by unknown persons sometime between 6:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sept. 27.
