Rotary Club honors two outstanding teens

Posted

The West Hempstead Rotary Club honored two Students of the Month at its Dec. 16 meeting in recognition of their inspirational service-above-self attitude and scholastic achievements. The students, Joseph DiMarco and Brian Kenny, received certificates and a small gift.

Joseph DiMarco

Joseph DiMarco is an outstanding young man who consistently challenges himself to achieve excellence in and out of the classroom. He demonstrates true academic prowess and keen critical thinking skills in an exceptionally demanding program of Advanced Placement and honors classes.

Joe is an excellent leader who has been selected co-vice president of the Science Olympiads and co-captain of Mathletes. He is an independent thinker with an altruistic soul who weighs carefully over his options before committing himself to judgment. His goal is to always make sure his decision is for the greater good. Joe does not allow himself to be easily persuaded by outside influences that will distract him from his objectives. It’s a true testament to his highly developed sense of responsibility, integrity and maturity.

Always enthusiastic about community service, Joe feels passionate about helping those less fortunate. He has a platform to do so as a member of both the Student Council and Key Club. Twice he has represented West Hempstead High School at Key Club’s “D-Con” where he has been given opportunities to further learn how to apply his sense of commitment and purpose in the community. In addition, Joe has volunteered as a student tutor, a party organizer for the civic association and a participator in the Breast Cancer Walk at Jones Beach. He is a compassionate, humble young man who will no doubt continue to succeed, achieve and excel.

Brian Kenny

In the past three years Brian has developed into an intelligent young man. He is a hard working and dedicated student who continually strives for excellence. Not only does Brian understand the importance of a positive education, he understands the importance of being a positive American citizen.

As Key Club member since the ninth grade and the current Key Club secretary, Brian has led multiple fundraisers, benefit walks, food drives for the local community and fostered inter-grade level relationships that have benefited not only the West Hempstead school district, but also West Hempstead as a community. His pleasant nature, gentleness and leadership skills enable him to be an effective secretary. He has a unique ability to inspire fellow students to enthusiastically volunteer countless hours to assist him in these community service projects.

Brian's dedication to his school and community should be admired and commended.  It is an honor to know Brian, who has already begun to pave the way to a bright and successful future.
