Members with their unit citation earned for fighting a Hempstead fire last Father’s Day.
The West Hempstead Fire Department was recently acknowledged for its role in helping fight a massive fire in Hempstead on Father’s Day in 2012.
On June 17, the West Hempstead Fire Department, along with many other departments, battled a dangerous fire at a large apartment building located at 600 Fulton Ave. in Hempstead.
As a result of the efforts of the WHFD, the department was awarded a Unit Citation by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and the Nassau County Fire Commission at the annual awards ceremony on April 17.
