W.H. man charged with impersonating cop

Nassau County Police reported the arrest of a West Hempstead man who impersonated an officer while pulling over a woman driving her car in Great Neck on Nov. 6.

At around 4:45 p.m., according to Third Squad officers, Steven Kleiman, 58, tailgated a 43-year-old female victim, who was driving down Grace Avenue near Gilchrest Avenue, when she heard honking from a dark-colored vehicle behind her. When she pulled over to the side of Stoner Avenue, Kleinman cut in front of her car and blocked her path from pulling away.

He then stepped out of his vehicle, approached the woman’s car and claimed to be a police officer, flashing a miniature badge. He told the woman that she had committed several traffic law violations.

Kleiman was then seen entering a building at 40 Stoner Avenue, where he was police said he was later identified and arrested without incident.

Kleiman was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Nov. 7 and charged with first-degree criminal impersonation. He was ordered held on $2,000 bond or bail.
