Rener Reed, of West Hempstead, was recently honored at Hempstead Town Hall by Town Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby and Supervisor Kate Murray during the Make a Difference Awards.

Reed is dedicated to helping the sick, elderly, oppressed or disenfranchised members of our community in her tireless pursuit of equality for all. A respected role model for fellow residents, she is an advocate for all people regardless of their race, religion or political affiliation.

She has been a longtime champion of young people in local school districts, communities and youth organizations. Her ideals of anti-violence and respect for others prompted Gov. Cuomo to appoint her as chairperson of the first Martin Luther King Institute for Non-violence.

As a proud wife, mother and grandmother, Reed translates the love and emotion of her home life into many community endeavors, in which she strives to promote interracial goodwill, cultural enrichment and human relations.
