In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, we’ve seen many triumphs, but now, sadly, in some cases, politics are getting in the way of fully repairing some of the infrastructure that was lost or severely damaged.

We are surprised –– astounded, really –– that the Nassau County Legislature would choose to play politics with the severely damaged Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant, which was built in 1955 and serves 40 percent of county residents.

Last Oct. 29, Hurricane Sandy drowned the Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant in East Rockaway with more than nine feet of saltwater, destroying its pumps, shutting down its operating systems and overwhelming the already weak facility.
