Raymond Cody, a 75-year-old Wantagh resident, was a 20-year-old seaman on the USS Noa on Feb. 20, 1962 when astronaut John Glenn returned to Earth after orbiting the planet three times during the height of the Space Race with the Soviet Union. Although his team was assigned to the recovery flotilla, Cody never expected to see the capsule come down from the sky and splash into the Atlantic Ocean, cheer as Glenn climbed out onto the deck of the destroyer and bear witness to a significant moment in American history. more
