Adrian Allain, a member of the Baldwin Fire Department and a British Army veteran, committed suicide on March 31. He was 49. Allain was very popular in the community and established the British-American Social Society to celebrate the two countries’ cultures and raise money for charities. Since his death nearly two months ago, community groups and businesses have organized benefits for his family, including one on May 30 at South Nassau Christian Church.

Adrian Allain did a lot of living during his time on earth. The father of four, a native of London, spent six years in the British Army, moved to New York after marrying Deidre Stammers in 1993, founded a nonprofit organization to celebrate British culture, joined the Baldwin Fire Department and played keyboards in a band. But on March 31, Allain took his own life. He was 49. more

Nassau County Police closed off Mill Pond Preserve early Monday morning when a pedestrian came across a body on the bike path.

Police officer found dead at Mill Pond

A Nassau County police officer was found dead Monday morning at Mill Pond Preserve in Bellmore. Police report that a pedestrian was walking through the preserve when he came across a male’s body on the bike bath. It is believed to be an act of suicide. more

Suicide: education leads to prevention

Six months ago, a 24-year-old woman from Franklin Square took her own life. Two weeks ago, a 24-year-old Franklin Square man killed himself in his parents’ home. A close friend of both of them said they seemed happy. They were both athletic, had great senses of humor and smiled for every photo. more
