A chilly spring morning couldn't deter more than 50 teams from across Long Island from attending Mepham High School's Fourth Annual Paul Limmer Pirate Track and Field Invitational recently. The event, which was initially started to showcase Mepham's then new track, has become an annual friendly meet to raise money for Mepham's track and field team at the beginning of the season. more

Students of all ages, parents and educators at Calhoun High School shaved their heads for a cause on March 16. The school's annual St. Baldrick's Foundation fundraiser brought in more than $30,000 to aid research into childhood cancers. The non-profit St. Baldrick's Foundation provided more than $12 million for research in 2009 alone. Participants in a St. Baldrick's fundraiser shave their heads in "solidarity with kids fighting cancer" and collect pledges in return for taking it all off. more

Calhoun High School senior Kevin Harvey went into Wednesday’s Section VIII winter track state qualifier at St. Anthony’s High School in Huntington with one goal in mind –– place in the Top Three. Medaling there would get him to the state championship meet at Cornell on March 6. more
