A tanker truck overturned on Sunrise Highway in Bellmore late Tuesday night, causing a fuel spill that erupted in flames. Officials estimate that 3,000 to 7,000 gallons of fuel escaped from the tanker, which flipped on its side just before midnight.

The co-owner of a Valley Stream diner was killed in a car crash in Bellmore on July 4, police said. His family members, neighbors, colleagues and a Merrick church community are mourning the loss of someone they described as “a very good man.”

The Calhoun Sports Boosters Club held its eighth annual golf outing on June 27. Some 160 golfers attended, playing the Blue Course at Bethpage State Park. The foursome from Meroke Auto & Collision had the winning score. The guests of honor included past boosters president and vice president Keith and Cheryl Pastuch. Gregg Muscarella, Calhoun’s wrestling and badminton coach, was also given special recognition. Above were, from left, Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg, past boosters president Charlie Pagano and current President Neil Brown.

Village Auto of Bellmore recently donated proceeds from the sale of a 1999 minivan to the Long Island Crisis Center, a non-profit, 24-7 suicide-prevention hotline in Bellmore.
