According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, much of south Merrick, above, and south Bellmore would flood in a Category 3 hurricane. That is why the agency is requiring most area homeowners south of Sunrise Highway to purchase flood insurance. But FEMA recently offered a reprieve. See story.
