Vincent Montera, captain of Engine Company 2, said his boat crew had gotten no more than 200 feet after launching from South St. Mark’s Street when the terrified residents of one home jumped into the boat. more
There has been a lot of progress made in the rebuilding efforts since Hurricane Sandy hit Long Island in late October, but there is still work to be done. The Long Island Volunteer Center is in need of volunteers to help those impacted by the storm. more
