He said he has hosted more than 150 community meetings in his 11 years as county legislator, including tutorials on how to grieve assessments, as well as community meetings centered on safety to quality of life concerns.

Abrahams added that he plans to “set up shop” at the East Meadow Public Library in January or February to meet his new constituents. He also said he “looks forward” to working with Gonsalves. “If there’s community projects, road projects, infrastructure projects, park projects that we can team up on, “ Abrahams said. “I would love to.”

Gonsalves also emphasized that politics is pushed aside when dealing with constituent service, citing her work with Democrat David Denenberg, of the 19th District, who she shares parts of Merrick and Bellmore with. “[East Meadow] has been my community most of my life,” Gonsalves said. “I’m certainly going to make sure I’m there to assist anyone else that is going to serve those needs.”

On his re-election to the 15th Legislative District, Dunne thanked voters for continuing their “trust and support” in him. “I will do everything I can to make them proud,” said Dunne, a Levittown native.

His top focuses over the next two years, he said, will be to continue rightsizing county government, “and making sure that the quality of life is the best we can possibly provide, while at the same time, not increasing taxes,” Dunne said.

Republican Gary Hudes, who defeated Democratic challenger Diane Madden in the Town of Hempstead’s 6th Council District by 12,000 votes, was also appreciative of his decisive re-election. “I thank the residents that I represent for validating the way in which I take care of my district,” he said. “As a business owner, it is all about customer service. and there’s no reason why government should be any different.”

Hudes, a Levittown native who owns Gennaro Jewelers in North Bellmore, has served as a councilman since 2000. His top priorities moving forward, he said, is ensuring the town’s fiscal stability and maintaining constituent service.
