The East Meadow School District Board of Education interviewed two firms last week about assisting the district in its search for a new superintendent, with the goal of having him or her in place on July 1, 2016, according to board President Joseph Parisi.

The firms, which Parisi described as “reputable,” responded to a Request for Proposal recently issued by the district. The companies were interviewed by trustees during an executive session, which is not open to the public, on Sept. 10.

After trustees select a firm, Parisi said, their next step will be to create a profile of the characteristics and attributes they’d like to see in the district’s next superintendent, which he said would be compiled with the help of focus groups comprising faculty and parents. “It’s not only going to be what the board is looking for,” said Parisi, “but the various constituencies within the community.”

Those focus groups, he said, could be formed as soon as next month.

Leon Campo, who has 35 years of administrative experience in the district, and served as superintendent from 2006 to 2009, returned to the position on an interim basis last July, following the retirement of Louis DeAngelo, and will remain there until a new superintendent is hired, Parisi said.
