The New York District of Kiwanis International recently announced the winners who will be moving on to represent New York in the K-Kids International Contests and Awards competitions. For the second year in a row, the Bowling Green K-Kids have won every contest and award at the New York State level.

In addition, K-Kids District Administrator Mickie Leamey has also announced that Bowling Green has maintained its perfect record by being once again named a Kiwanis International Distinguished Club. BowlingGreen has earned this honor every year since their chartering.

The Bowling Green K-Kids’ scrapbook included over 120 pages of photos, letters, newspaper articles, awards and other club memorabilia. The scrapbook details more than 35 service projects and events completed by the club during the 2010-11 service year.

The club’s Martin Luther King National Day of Service project that asked club members to engage their families in service projects of their own choosing throughout the Martin Luther King weekend was selected as the New York District K-Kids’ best single service project. Each member completed a form and submitted a photo of their service project. The forms and photos were displayed in one of the hallways of Bowling Green on the K-Kids’ Wall of Service.

The four remaining K-Kids contests are entered by individual club members. These are the Art contest, the Speech contest, the Essay contest and the Kiwanis International Foundation’s Leadership Award. Each of these contests was won by a member of the Bowling Green K-Kids.

Bowling Green K-Kids members Mackenzie Bauman and Gabriella Poscillico also received New York District Honorable Mention recognition in the Essay contest and the Art contest, respectively.

Bowling Green K-Kids Faculty Advisor Rich Santer praised this year’s K-Kids. “This year’s club is nearly three times the size of previous years,” he said. “We have younger members than in the past with many members being third graders. I am very proud to say that this group has done more service projects than I imagined. They are tireless in their enthusiasm for helping others.”

Each of the New York state level winners moves on to compete against the winners from Kiwanis Districts around the world.  International winners will be judged during the month of May. Kiwanis International’s results will be announced in late May or early June.

The Bowling Green K-Kids is a community service club for elementary school students sponsored by the East Meadow Kiwanis Club.
