Bowling Green students help troops stay in touch

Posted

Bowling Green Elementary School’s Bee Green Environmental Student Club collected dozens of cell phones and delivered them to Senator Kemp Hannon’s office in Garden City, which is registered as an official drop-off site for Cell Phones for Soldiers, which is a nonprofit organization that collects unwanted cell phones and sells them to ReCellular. The revenue is then used to buy millions of prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops overseas.

The Bee Green Environmental Club is open to all third graders of East Meadow’s Bowling Green Elementary School. The club’s mission is to make students more aware of environmental concerns. The children have taken up many projects during the 10-week period of the club, which include recycling and hands-on activities around the school’s campus. Students gain a better idea of how to re-purpose items that would normally be recycled or thrown away.
