Breast cancer, paths to wellness program

Free tai chi workshop at Adelphi

Posted

Breast cancer patients, current and past, are invited to a free workshop on tai chi to be held on Thursday, Aug. 4, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Avenue, Adelphi University, Garden City.

Tai chi is an ancient art that has been practiced for centuries in China. In the last 10 years, it has become highly recognized in the west as an exercise that brings harmony to the mind and body. The slow dance-like moves combined with regulated breathing aim to circulate “chi” (the body’s internal energy). This concentrated movement helps to restore balance, improve posture and strengthen muscles while calming the mind. It is a safe and effective exercise for everyone to perform at their own level of ability. No prior tai chi experience is needed.

The instructor is Dorothy Scott, an instructor and practitioner who teaches tai chi at Clark Botanical Gardens in Albertson. She has developed a style consistent with the Wu style of tai chi.

Participants should wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring bottled water.

There is no charge but pre-registration is required. Call (516) 877-4325. The workshop is support by Meghan’s Pansies, a special fund of the Adelphi program.
