Fireworks lit the night sky at Eisenhower Park last Saturday during the ninth annual festivities. As thousands sprawled out on the park grounds, family and friends gathered in groups along Hempstead Turnpike to watch sparkling colors paint the starry canvas.

In an extravagant pyrotechnics display that was seen from miles away, locals enjoyed dazzling pops of color as they reflected on past and present wars that allowed them the opportunity to celebrate during the steamy summer night.

Roving afternoon clouds threatened to disrupt the evening’s events, but a clear palette emerged and the eye-catching presentation went off without a hitch.

Prior to the main event, many spectators also gathered at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre and caught a concert by Dr. K’s Motown Revue and a tribute to John Cougar Mellencamp and Journey by the Idol Kings.
