Cops arrest baseball mom for stalking

Posted

Nassau County Police have arrested and charged a local baseball mom with stalking an East Meadow Little League official, reportedly because her son did not make a travel baseball team.

According to police, Janet Chiauzzi, 44, of Central Drive North in East Meadow, sent threatending letters to a league official and accused him of child abuse.

In May, Chiauzzi sent multiple letters to the official and his son that were “of a threatening nature,” according to authorities. Police said that Chiauzzi also threatened the official’s wife and daughter. Both of the official’s children are under age 14.

The allegations against Chiauzzi also include false claims of sexual abuse. Police said that on June 1 the principal of the children’s school received a letter that claimed the East Meadow Little League official had abused his children. Nassau County Child Protective Services investigated the allegations and deemed them unfounded.

Six more letters were sent to the East Meadow Baseball Little League trying to defame the official and force his removal as an official, police reported.

On June 18, Chiauzzi was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree stalking, two counts of third-degree stalking, two counts of third-degree falsely reporting an incident, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and four counts of second-degree aggravated harassment.

Chiauzzi pleaded not guilty to the charges in First District Court on Sunday. She is being represented by the Nassau County Legal Aid Society, which does not, as a matter of policy, comment on pending cases.

At press time, the East Meadow Little League did not return calls for comment.
