Election 2015

Dunne seeks another term in 15th District

Posted

Dennis Dunne, an original member of the Nassau County Legislature, is seeking his 11th term. The Republican from Levittown represents the 15th District, which includes Levittown and Salisbury and portions of East Meadow, Bethpage, Wantagh and Seaford.

He is being challenged by Democrat Matthew Malin, of Seaford. Malin is a 2010 graduate of MacArthur High School and is a graduate of Hofstra University, where he studied political science. He works for the Nassau County Board of Elections and Nassau County Democratic Committee, and was a legislative intern for former Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy.

The Herald sent questions to both candidates, but did not receive responses from Malin.

The district includes North Wantagh east of Wantagh Avenue, and northern Seaford in the area of the East Broadway elementary school. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Herald: Why are you running for another term to serve in the Nassau County Legislature?

Dennis Dunne: I am proud to run for the office of Nassau County legislator for District 15 for the 11th time because it is my mission to serve the residents of Nassau County.  As a marine, as a family man and as a public servant, I want to do all that I can to improve the lives of the people around me.

Herald: What are the issues important to the residents of the 15th Legislative District?

Dunne: Taxes. Nassau residents are fed up with high taxes. Despite the fact that county taxes are only about 15 percent of the average property tax bill, I have been working hard to stabilize taxes in Nassau County, and will not vote to increase taxes this year. We have frozen taxes and had surpluses for four out of the last five years. I will continue to work to control costs rather than resort to tax increases.
