East Meadow budget passes

School Board incumbents reelected; library budget passed

The East Meadow School District's 2013-2014 proposed budget was passed overwhelmingly by voters on Tuesday, with 1,851 voting 'yes' and 688 voting 'no' -- a passage rate of 72.9 percent.

The $188.2 million spending plan is a 1.83 percent increase over this year's budget, with a tax levy of $131 million -- a 2.49 percent increase.

School Board incumbents Joseph Parisi, Jeffrey Rosenking and Marcee Rubinstein were reelected to the Board of Education. All ran unopposed.

The East Meadow Public Library's proposed budget was also approved by voters, with 1838 'yes' votes to 625 'no' votes -- a 74.6 percent passage rate.

"Thank you for your overwhelming vote of confidence," said library director Carol Probeyhan. "It is wonderful to know that we are on the right track. Please continue to participate and take advantage of all that your library offers."

Board Trustee Henry Olshin, who ran unopposed, was reelected.
