The East Meadow Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 57th Annual Installation of Officers and Board of Directors at Chateau Briand on Jan. 27.

The 2011 Chamber of Commerce President Walter Skinner stepped down and welcomed Millie Jones as the newest president. However, first he was honored by chamber members and reflected on memorable year.

Jones also addressed the crowd and after sharing her gratitude she said, “I have seen the rise and fall of many businesses. Now, more than ever, in these most difficult times, we as businesses need to unite. It is my hope that I can bring together the businesses of East Meadow so that we can learn from each other and help make each business in our community a stronger and more vibrant business.”

Another individual who was recognized at the celebration was Janine Kelly, the 2011 Chamber Person of the Year. Kelly has been a member since 2000, a board member in 2003 and president in 2009. However, her shining moment did not end after receiving the award. Her boyfriend of seven years, Joseph Salerno, surprised everyone when he got down on one knee and proposed marriage. Kelly responded with “yes.”

Other individuals who were installed included Dolores Rome, first vice presidents; Steve Haller, second vice president; Mitchell Allen, treasurer; Paul Telese, secretary; Walter Skinner, chairman and directors Adrian Campoconico, Shelley Francis, Kathy Haberkern, Andrew Langus, Will Miranda, Janet Ottaiano, Frank Saracino, Bruce Serkes, Mitchell Skoller, Dominic Tinnerello, Tom Vogel and Eileen Wulff.
