East Meadow, Clarke music programs commended

East Meadow and W. T. Clarke high schools have been named semifinalists in the 2016 GRAMMY Signature Schools program.

The GRAMMY Foundation selected only 119 schools nationwide as GRAMMY Signature Schools semifinalists this year. Created in 1998, the program recognizes top U.S. public high schools that are making an outstanding commitment to music education during an academic school year.

Representatives of the foundation, — which was established in 1988 to cultivate the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to American culture — will announce the Gold recipients, or finalists, in mid-March. One school program will be honored as the National GRAMMY Signature School.

Superintendent Leon Campo was proud of each high school’s achievements already and congratulated them for their success. “This is a tremendous honor to have both of our high schools recognized as semifinalists,” he said.
