Local left scene after hitting two pedestrians

East Meadow resident Jose Sorto, 48, hit two pedestrians in Uniondale on July 21, and left the scene, police say, adding, he turned himself in to the Third Squad in Williston Park later the same day.

Authorities said Abrahan Soriano, 37, and Ramon Santos Cabrera, 49, both of Uniondale, were attempting to cross Jerusalem Avenue at Leonard Avenue when a maroon car heading east struck them.

Soriano was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance where he died, police said. Cabrera was also sent to the hospital and was treated for a head injury and listed in stable condition.

Detectives said Sorto is being charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an incident.
