They’re off to college.

Six student-athletes from East Meadow High School were honored on Feb. 2 for signing letters of intent with their chosen colleges and
universities.

“We are very proud of these student-athletes and we’re happy to recognize them for this accomplishment,” said EMHS Athletic Director Kevin Regan. “East Meadow High School has a long and proud tradition of having competitive athletic teams. The school district and community have always been great supporters of our program.”

Those who sign National Letters of Intent agree to attend the designated college or university for one year and are granted an athletics scholarship. The EMHS signees participated in a brief ceremony in the main office on National Letter of Intent Day on Feb. 2. Family members, coaches and staff congratulated the student athletes.

According to Regan, about 50 alumni are currently competing athletically on the collegiate level.

“Knowing that, the number of signees is not surprising,” Regan said. “With continued support and hard work from our athletes and coaches I would like to see that number get even higher.”

The athletic director said he plans on improving the school’s method of tracking alumni who continue their athletic careers beyond high school. The EMHS signees included Brandon Noblett for football (Bucknell), Jessica Widmann (Fordham), Gabriella Fuduli (Iona) and Luisa Echeverry (Hofstra) for women’s soccer and Jamie Laird (Dowling) and Samantha Miller (C.W. Post) for softball. Before heading to college, Laird and Miller will help the Lady Jets this spring in their quest to repeat as county champions.
