East Meadow Kiwanis hosts Holiday Food Drive

Volunteers help provide meals to needy during Easter, Passover

The season of giving has arrived once again.

East Meadow Kiwanis is in the midst of its annual spring holiday Food Drive, and offers community members two ways to donate items. This weekend, Kiwanians were stationed in front of Waldbaum’s on the corner of Front Street and Merrick Avenue in East Meadow to collect food and monetary donations.

For those who couldn’t make it to Waldbaum’s this weekend, North Shore Fitness is also a drop-off site for people wishing to donate food. Drop-off hours at North Shore Fitness, located in East Meadow Plaza on 1940 Hempstead Turnpike, are: Monday to Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All collected proceeds are used for the Kiwanis Holiday Basket program, which provides all the main components for meals for East Meadow families in need during the Easter and Passover season.

Once the food is collected, a team of Kiwanians and student service volunteers assemble baskets at W.T. Clarke High School on April 15. The next morning, volunteers return to Clarke to load baskets into their cars and deliver them to assigned families in town.
