Editor's note: The Herald did not recognize PTA Council two main honorees Dana LaScala and Joseph Parisi. We apologize and in our edition to come out on 3/29, there will be another article profiling the two and their achievements.

President Robin Fitzpatrick, the president of the East Meadow Parent Teacher’s Association Council, likened the group’s mission to the classic parable of the starfish. The allegory describes a child who sends a starfish back into the ocean after it’s washed up by high tide. Despite there being millions of starfish, the child relishes making a difference for one.

Each school’s respective PTA honored individuals who make a difference for the children of East Meadow at its 45th Founder’s Day ceremony and dinner on March 19 at Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck.

Members of the W.T. Clarke High School Jazz Ensemble delighted attendees with festive tunes during cocktail hour and the East Meadow High School Chamber Choir performed the National Anthem.

The award ceremony began with an address to district staff from Patrick Cruz and Aashini Shah, the valedictorians from East Meadow and Clarke high schools, respectively.

Shah described how her favorite teachers have acted as unofficial guidance counselors, encouraged her to pursue studies she would have otherwise overlooked and dared her to cross boundaries. “These teachers go the extra mile for every student,” she said.
