Pearl Harbor survivor Gerard Barbosa, of East Meadow, was one of six men honored this morning at a 70th anniversary memorial ceremony.

On Dec. 7, 1941, American soldiers in Hawaii were unexpectedly attacked by the Japanese. Fighter planes raided the naval harbor for nearly two hours, solidifying the presence of the United States of America in World War II.

Today, at the American Airpower Museum and Republic Airport in Farmingdale, six survivors were honored for their courage on that day, "a day which will live in infamy." These men included Gerard Barbosa, USS Raleigh; Richard Abeles, USS Dale; Barnard Bernal, Schofield Barracks; Seymour Blutt, Hickman Field; Michael Montelione, Schofield Barracks; and William Halleran, USS Phoenix.

Following a ceremony, an aircraft departed with roses and dropped the flowers into the New York Harbor near the Statue of Liberty.
