The East Meadow Fire Department held its 83rd annual Inspection and Installation dinner on Saturday at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. Walter Griffin Jr. was formally installed as the chief of department, succeeding John Priest Jr.

The board of fire commissioners then installed chiefs Robert Salveson as first assistant, James Kane as second assistant, and John McGee as third assistant.

The ladies auxiliary officers, junior fire company officers, company officers, company captains and department officers were also installed during the evening.

The department also took moments of silence to pay respect to members who died in the past year, including George Becker, a former captain of Engine Company Two, Joseph Rocco of Engine Company One, John Washburn, a former chief and a member of Engine Company Four, and Charlotte Gassman and Marjorie Welch, both of the Ladies Auxiliary unit.
