The East Meadow Fire Department hosted the Sixth Battalion Old Fashioned Drill and Tournament last Friday night.

Congregating at the Four Towns Firefighter’s Training Center, East Meadow and five other departments competed in numerous hose and ladder events. Testing speed, agility and efficiency, the Meadowlarks came in 4th place as the North Bellmore Rinky Dinks took 1st place for the 11th year running.

Other participating teams included the Seaford Inmates, Merrick Buckeyes, Bellmore Ball Breakers and the Levittown Devils.

The EMFD also hosted the annual Sixth Battalion Parade last weekend. Dressed to impress, the color guard and EMFD junior firefighters each took 3rd place while the Ladies Auxiliary placed 2nd. Nine other departments came out to East Meadow to participate in the parade.

“Many residents don’t realize that these different departments work together,” said former Chief James Darcey. “This year’s festivities are a chance for use to celebrate the work of our volunteers and honor the memory of all of the firefighters, EMS workers and police officers who gave their lives on this ten year anniversary of 9/11.”

The 6th Battalion is one of ten battalions in Nassau County.
