EMFD pays tribute to EMS members

The East Meadow Fire Department honored its own emergency medical service providers at a brunch held at fire headquarters on Sunday morning.

“Our department’s EMTs, paramedics, rescue personnel and first responders answer thousands of calls for help a year and ask for nothing in return,” said EMFD chief Carl Pugliese. “This is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to this group of dedicated professionals.”

The department will be inviting local politicians and community leaders to the brunch so they can meet and mingle with the EMS providers and recognize the volunteer service they provide to the community. The program will also include awards to outstanding EMS providers from the department and the community, including a Pre-Hospital Save Award presented to our members and civilians who successfully resuscitated a cardiac arrest victim.

This week, through Saturday, the nation celebrates Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week. The event brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services on the medical “front line.”
