A few weeks ago, the Matuszak family went in search of their Havenese puppy, Lily, and just days ago, the four-month-old was returned.

Lily had been missing since Aug. 18, and Kerri Matuszak was hoping the puppy slipped out her front door, but continued to worry that their home health aid may have taken the family pet. Finally, last Sunday, her suspicion was confirmed.

An Elmont resident, 27-year-old Daffney Rincher, was charged with petit larceny after allegedly removing the dog from their home. Third Squad detectives recovered and returned Lily to her rightful owners.

According to police, Rincher complied with the investigation and when questioned about the dog’s

whereabouts, admitted she knew how Lily disappeared.

Rincher will appear in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
