Once again, they were the champions.

With the famous Queen song playing in the background, it was difficult for anyone to hold back tears of joy for the inspirational theater troupe known as the FREE Players.

Last weekend marked the FREE Players’ third appearance in the East Meadow School District. The group put on two performances of “Seussical the Musical” at East Meadow High School, with an evening show on Saturday and a Sunday matinee.

The FREE Players are a group of talented and motivated adults with special needs that express their love for the arts through the Theater DayHab program. Jim Sisto leads the program as it is into its 15th season.

This performance of “Seussical the Musical” was led by director Tara Palen and assistant director Evan Donnellan.

A large audience nearly filled the EMHS auditorium on both nights. Attendees were entertained to a story that celebrates the stories of the legendary author, Dr. Seuss.

John Stoehr thrilled the audience with his enthusiastic rendition of the “Cat in the Hat.” Judy Flom starred as Gertrude.

East Meadow also welcomed three of its former students to the stage: Evan Shiechel, Barbara Sharkis and Steven Accatino. Shiechel played Horton, Sharkis performed as Mayzie, and Accatino took the stage as a Cadet and a Who.
