The New York Giants defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 20-17, at Candlestick Park on Sunday to take the NFC Championship and advance to Super Bowl XLVI. The Giants won the last six of seven games and their fifth consecutive road playoff game.

Fans from all over Nassau County headed to R.C. Dugans in East Meadow to watch the game. More than one hundred fans came out to watch the close game that ended in overtime. Giants battled the wind and rain and prevailed with the win after Devin Thomas recovered a fumble forced by Jacquian Williams.

“That was a tremendous football game for those that really enjoy football in its very basic element,” said Coach Tom Coughlin. “It was just a classic football game.”

The Giants will face off against the New England Patriots in Indianapolis, Ind. on Feb. 5 and will be the 10th franchise to play in at least five Super Bowls, joining San Francisco, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Dallas, the Raiders, Washington, New England, Miami and Denver.
