It was all about soccer at E.M. tourney

The East Meadow Soccer Club hosted the 31st annual East Meadow Soccer Tournament, sponsored by Covanta Energy, Aug. 29 and 30. Teams came from across the South Shore for this massive undertaking.

In all, some 415 squads with more than 7,500 players ages 8 to 18 took part in the event, which is the largest youth soccer tournament in New York state and among the largest in the Northeast.

More than 1,100 games were played on 52 fields at 14 sites across Long Island, including Mitchel Park, Cuomo Park, Burns Park, Seamans Neck Park, Stillwell Park, Speno Park, Eisenhower Park, Bethpage State Park Polo Fields, Salisbury Fields, Soccer Park, Field of Dreams in East Meadow, Diblee Fields, McVey Elementary School and Hofstra University.

Teams came from across the Island and throughout the Northeast. In the past, squads have come from as far as Canada and Bermuda.The weekend’s festivities culminated in the boys’ and girls’ Covanta Cup Finals for the high-school age groups on Sunday evening.
