Local community Runs with the Rams

More than 500 people gathered at W.T. Clarke High School in Salisbury for an event that has become a cherished day on the calendar for the local community — Run With the Rams.

The event, co-founded seven years ago by high school athletic director Josh Friedman and middle school athletic director Janine Heilbronn, promotes fitness and camaraderie, and draws hundreds of excited runners every year. This year’s race was no exception.

School and community spirit was clearly in full effect, as participants donned custom made Run With the Rams T-shirts, in Clarke’s brown and white school colors.

The winner of the 5K race was former Clarke student Wilber Roniero, who clocked in at 18 minutes and 47 seconds. The first male student finisher was Justin Kersh, at 19 minutes and 51 seconds, and the first female student finisher was Kate Su, at 22 minutes and 16 seconds.

Each year, funds raised are split between the school’s athletic program as well a local family that has fallen upon difficult times. This year, a portion of the proceeds went to the Helming and Palmer families.

“Thanks to all the runners and sponsors for making this year’s event one of the best yet,” said Friedman, who added that the eighth Run With the Rams has already been scheduled for April 16, 2016. “It is never too early to start training next year’s run.”
