Assemblyman Tom McKevitt partnered with East Meadow School District students this holiday season to collect gifts for children in need.

McKevitt, a Republican from East Meadow, sponsored local efforts for the United States Marine Corps’ annual Toys for Tots campaign. Children attending Parkway and Meadowbrook elementary schools participated in the initiative.

The Toys for Tots Program mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December annually, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the American community in which the campaign is conducted. According to the organization, the gifts act as messages of hope to needy youngsters, which will assist them in becoming responsible, productive and patriotic citizens.

McKevitt has supported Toys for Tots for nine years. He said he was sincerely thankful to the United States Marine Corps for organizing the collections around the country and to community children for participating in the program.

“The annual Toys for Tots drive is a wonderful way to help our neighbors in need during the holidays, and by working together with our local schools, it is a warm reminder of the true spirit of the season,” he said. “I would like to thank all the schools that participated and the students who generously donated toys and their time to this worthy cause. I’m wishing everyone in the 17th Assembly District a very happy holiday season and a healthy and happy 2016.”
