McVey and Parkway Elementary Schools were selected as the curriculum presenters at the March 31 Board of Education Communications meeting at the Leon J. Campo Salisbury Center.

McVey, led by Principal Kerry Dunne, introduced a literacy program at the school known as “Words Their Way.” “It’s the key ingredient in our balanced literacy workshop,” Dunne said. “The teaching is brain-based, multifaceted and dynamic.” Using a Smart Board, Dunne and a crew of teachers demonstrated lessons and a word game that involved interaction with students on hand at the meeting.

Parkway, led by Principal Jamie Mack, presented the school’s work with videoconferencing. Maria Leftwich, who oversees technology at the school, gave a rundown of the various programs that students partake in with museums, agencies, schools and organizations from around the world.
