The East Meadow Chamber of Commerce held its monthly general membership meeting on Aug. 4 at the Empress Diner on Hempstead Turnpike.
   
Chamber 1st Vice President Mike Panagatos, meeting host and owner of the Empress Diner on 2490 Hempstead Turnpike, announced that there are currently 175 members enrolled in the organization. Cooking with the Chef

   
The Chamber’s next event is Cooking with the Chef, Michael Cobi, at La Novella Restaurant (364 East Meadow Avenue) on Aug. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Cobi, who owns LaNovella, will feature a multi-course meal plus wine, coffee and dessert. The cost is $75. Click here to read more about this event.
 
Fishing Trip
   
The Chamber held its annual fishing trip in Freeport on Aug. 8. The event, coordinated by Dominick Tinerello, had a waiting list with more than 40 people. Read the Herald’s community update for upcoming events, or visit the Chamber Web site.
 
NCCC Businessperson of the Year

   
The Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce hosts its annual Small Businessperson of the Year breakfast in October. The East Meadow Chamber has selected Walter Skinner, owner of the Skinner Allstate Agency on 2066 Front Street, as its Small Businessperson of the Year. Skinner is a past president of the Chamber, a former Herald Person of the Year, and a member of the East Meadow Board of Education. He will be honored at NCCC’s annual breakfast on Oct. 15 at 8 a.m. in the Crest Hollow Country Club.
 
Culinary Delights 2010
   
The East Meadow Chamber of Commerce continues its annual tradition in September with Culinary Delights. For $50, attendees can enjoy an evening filled with selections from local eateries, beverages, music and raffles. All proceeds go to Chamber-selected charities, including the Nassau University Medical Center Pediatric Center and Kamp Kiwanis.
   
This year’s Culinary Delights will be held on Sept. 20 at Carltun on the Park in Eisenhower Park.
 
Next meeting
   
The next general meeting of the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce will be hosted at Cipriano’s Nursery, on 1660 Front Street in East Meadow, on Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
