For the protection of motorists, two of the three northbound travel lanes on the Meadowbrook State Parkway (MSP) in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, will be closed to motorists beginning tonight, Monday, April 19, between Merchants Concourse (Exit M3) and the Northern State Parkway (NSP), according to a release from the state Department of Transportation.

The northbound closures will take place Monday through Friday between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. and will continue for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.  A single travel lane will remain open to motorists.

Following the northbound closures, two of the three southbound MSP travel lanes will be closed at night between Old Country Road (Exit M1) and Southern State Parkway (SSP/Exit M6) for approximately three weeks, between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.  These closures are needed to install new center median guiderails which are vital to help prevent crossover crashes between northbound and southbound vehicles on the MSP.

Local officials and emergency service providers have been advised of the closures.  As with any roadway project, this operation is weather dependent and may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.

Motorists are being warned in advance of the closing via electronic message board signs but are urged to use alternate routes to avoid delays, especially during the initial lane closures set up around 10:00 p.m. each night. Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone and obey the posted construction speed limit for their safety as well as the safety of the highway work crew.
