Normal commute expected on LIRR

Long Island commuters can expect a somewhat normal commute home Thursday evening, as the MTA restored service on all 11 Long Island Rail Road branches by early afternoon.

The LIRR plans to operate a reduced weekday evening rush hour schedule as a result of weather-related issues from the storm. Of the 126 trains normally operated during the evening rush, 18 eastbound trains will be canceled and, as a result, some trains could be more crowded.

All trains on the Long Beach and West Hempstead branches are expected to run as usual.

The agency had canceled some 25 westbound trains early Thursday morning after more than 13 inches of snow fell on the region. Service on the entire West Hempstead branch, and others, was suspended around 7 a.m. but restored several hours later.

THe MTA suspended Able-Ride service except for medical trips, including dialysis, radiation treatment and chemotherapy.

All Long Island Bus service was suspended as of midnight, but partially restored with delays on a number of routes by mid-morning.

Partially restored service:
N1, N4, N6, N15, N19, N20, N22, N23, N24, N25, N31, N32, N33, N35, N40, N41, N43, N45, N54, N55, N57, N58, N70, N71, N72.

Partially restored along a segment of the following routes:
N48 and N49 (buses operating Hempstead to/from Hicksville LIRR station only)

All other service remains suspended.
