The NuHealth Foundation hosted the 2010 Heroes in Health Gala, attended by 450 guests at Oheka Castle. The event raised nearly  $300,000, which will be used to fund the advancement of quality care throughout the NuHealth System.

NuHealth operates the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, as well as the A. Holly Paterson Extended Care Center in Uniondale and several community centers.

“Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all of the devoted supporters whose generous contributions will enable NuHealth to continue providing quality to its hundreds of thousands of patients of the NuHealth System,” said Arthur Gianelli, president/CEO of the NuHealth System.

In addition to celebrating a year of robust progress, including the opening of the Zaki Hossain Diabetes Center, a new Roosevelt Family Health Center, and several bold renovations throughout the hospital, the gala also marked Nassau University Medical Center’s 75th anniversary.

In the spirit of growth and continued excellence, NuHealth Foundation gala honored Healthcare REIT, which is one of NuHealth’s partners in its multi-year capital expansion project.

New child psychiatry fellowship program approved

Gianelli announced last week that the NUMC received approval for the creation of a new child psychiatry fellowship program from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) with an initial three-year accreditation to start on July 1, 2011.

Dr Nyapati Rao, M.D., M.S., is the chairman of the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.

The United States suffers from a critical shortage of child psychiatrists especially in public sector.

The fellowship program will provide its trainees with clinical experience in all areas of child psychiatry so as to become competent practitioners of the field.
